Information for partner Universities

This webpage is meant to provide partner and prospective partner Universities with some basic but relevant information on how to cooperate with Unibo, with a special focus on incoming students at the University of Bologna within exchange programmes.

If you signed a Bilateral agreement within the LLP-Erasmus Programme, or if our two Institutions have mutually signed an agreement including students mobility, please read carefully the following sections. If you wish to establish a new exchange agreement, please contact the Erasmus Faculty Delegate of the Faculty you are interested at. You can find the list in the attachment box.

  • nomination procedure

Student mobility can be organised only within the framework of an existing agreement between Bologna and a foreign University.

University of Bologna can only accept e-mail nominations from the International Office of the partner university; they must be sent to theIncoming students' office
The nomination should include personal data and e-mail address of the student, area code/ISCED of the Erasmus exchange programme. Please do not send paper applications.

Application deadlines for exchange students: July 31st for students coming in the first semester, December 15th for students coming in the second semester

  • Italian language knowledge

Although Unibo does offer Italian Language courses to foreign students, the number of places available is limited. It is therefore highly recommended that incoming students have at least a pre-intermediate knowledge of Italian language (A2).
Courses and lectures in English are offered in some graduate courses (2nd cycle degree) but most of the classes are in Italian. For further information on our preparatory Italian language check the dedicated section on our website.

  • Instructions on immigration rules

All required documents both for EU students and non-EU students are listed and explained in detail on our webpage, please check it out. You are kindly asked to forward this information to all students that have been or will be selected for an exchange programme at the University of Bologna.

If a non-EU student needs an invitation letter with official stamp and hand-written signature to obtain the visa, please make a specific request. The letter will be sent by mail or express courier to the partner university.

Please note that also EU student must carry out a registration at the Italian Municipality office and they must also have a health insurance or equivalent coverage.

Feel free to ask for clarification if needed.
